If you ever want to test out your self-control, come to a Janet Whiteway gig, and see how long you last before you start singing, or dancing, or both. At the very least you’ll end up grinning like a cat, because this is the cream of musical performance, which, when coupled with her delightfully whimsical take on life, makes her and her band a little known Toronto delight.
Janet has always loved music and, even as a youngster, played multiple instruments (piano, violin, flute and the french horn). Singing was a natural thing, and church choirs were the natural place to learn anything you needed to know about the craft. She spent a year at Humber College in Toronto studying jazz before entering Queen's School of Music to tackle that French Horn, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree.
She has played musical theatre, piano bars, cabaret, disco shows, Prince and Elton John tributes, and good old top 40.
Janet spends a lot of time behind the piano, working on her cover tunes and original music, and that paid off when she won the RightOutTVMusic&Video Award in the "Best Song So Far" category for 'Pure Sunshine', the title track of her CD.
Janet is a consummate and busy performer, she is currently the keyboardist with Grace www.gracemusicto.com and singer/keyboardist with the Coe Hill Girls (www.coehillgirls.ca) Elton Jan and Boss Lady as well as with her own band.
